Canon Medical Systems UK is proud to announce the renewal of their partnership with national charity Support Dogs for a further year, continuing a relationship that has already changed countless lives across the UK. The renewed partnership reflects their commitment to enriching every life they touch, by supporting initiatives that promote inclusion, independence, and community wellbeing.
Since 2019, the partnership has supported the training of specialist assistance dogs for people living with autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities. These remarkable dogs provide vital, life saving support and day to day care. Whether it’s a child able to navigate the world safely with their support dog by their side, or an adult being a provided a 100% reliable warning before an epileptic seizure, the impact is both deeply personal and widely felt.
“Every time we hear how a support dog has helped someone feel safe, be seen, or simply do something they couldn’t before, it reminds us why this partnership matters,” said Mark Hitchman, Managing Director of Canon Medical Systems UK. “It’s not just about partnership. It’s about believing in a world where people with complex needs can live freely, fully and without fear. All of us at Canon Medical feel personally invested in this work, and we’re proud to play even a small role in the freedom these dogs bring to people’s lives.”
Canon Medical’s first sponsored support dog, Conan, is now paired with a young boy, Aiden, living with autism. The connection between them has enabled Aiden to explore the world more confidently, embrace new routines and enjoy a sense of independence that continues to grow each day. Their bond is a shining example of how support dogs can positively shape lives.
Following in Conan’s pawprints is Kibo – meaning “hope” in Japanese – who is currently part of Support Dogs’ puppy socialiser programme prior to continuing his two-year training programme. While still early in his journey, Kibo is already bringing joy and purpose to the retired couple caring for him, showing how support dogs can make a positive difference from the very beginning.
In addition to financial support, since the beginning of their partnership Canon Medical staff have donated over 170 hours of their time, volunteering at events and helping the charity with strategic development and research initiatives. Grassroots fundraising by employees has also made a real difference, with raffles and themed office events helping to fund vital training sessions and client support.
“This renewed commitment marks another meaningful step in supporting Support Dogs’ mission to bring hope, independence, and life-changing care to individuals and families across the UK,” adds Mark. “This partnership continues to demonstrate that real impact begins with compassion and connection, enriching lives and empowering people to live more freely and fully.”
Danny Anderson, Head of Fundraising at Support Dogs commented, “Our partnership with Canon Medical is so important to our charity. We provide all our services entirely free of charge and rely entirely on voluntary donations. The support we receive from Canon Medical is vital in enabling us to transform the lives of many families.”
