Mark Hitchman

Managing Director

Early in his career, Mark understood the power and potential of CT scanning. And it was his particular expertise in this field which led to a role with Toshiba Medical Systems, undertaking the clinical training of radiographers around the world. He subsequently led a 100-strong team in designing the next generation of CT for Phillips Medical Systems.

After leading the radiotherapy company Nucletron into growth, Mark rejoined Toshiba as Managing Director and steered the business as it became Canon Medical Systems UK. In the years since, he has introduced and implemented a huge number of important strategic initiatives, partnerships and projects to take the organisation into the future. For example, the UK’s first radiology imaging academy, a fast response task force to support customers during Covid 19 and, of course, the impressive Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield. The data speaks volumes, notably the company’s numerous accreditations and excellent customer satisfaction scores.

Behind every action, he has a single point of focus: the patient. “Everything we do is about the meaningful curative impact on patients,” he says. “And we take a pioneering approach to the industry, shaping the space and raising the bar for everyone.”

This includes Canon Medical’s approach to sustainability, and Mark’s strong social and environmental conscience aligns perfectly with Canon’s corporate philosophy of Kyosei – living and working together for the common good. “We want to show others that it is possible to be both successful and responsible,” he explains. “Not just as a matter of compliance, but simply because it’s the right thing to do.”
