Ian Watson

Director of Commercial Solutions

I’ve been working in the healthcare environment for 30 years since becoming a Service Manager for the Hewlett Packard Medical Products Group in 1990. The business at HP grew and over the years I managed different parts of the Medical Group, from Service Sales development for the UK, to Managing a Service Sales team across Northern Europe. It was an exciting time with new products and services, from Healthcare IT to the regular sales of service contracts, consumable items and testing equipment. I was also involved in large Government Tenders for remote IT solutions as well as the early days of Managed Equipment Services (MES).

HP split in two in 1999 and the Healthcare Solutions Group (HSG), as it was then known, became part of the new Agilent Technologies. However, in 2000, HSG was sold to Philips and I took on the role of Services Sales Manager for Philips Medical Systems UK. After being involved with the development of the new Services business including large MES projects, I took on the role of Regional Sales Manager for the North of the UK. This involved the sales of MR, CT, X-Ray and Nuclear Medicine systems with my team of sales and support people.

I later took on a role to develop stronger relationships with some key Private Healthcare organisations as well as leading the bid for the first NHS Supply Chain Tender for Radiology.
Then in 2013 I joined Canon Medical bringing with me a wealth of experience from Customer Service, Healthcare Sales, programme development, people and business management. I joined the Board of Directors in 2016 to head up the Commercial Solutions business which was new to the organisation to fulfil requests from our customers to provide complete solutions around Canon products and services. This could be from providing mobile and relocatable interim systems, to Modular buildings, IT solutions and other third-party products integrated into a solution to help customers provide the best experience for their patients.
