Official Imaging Supporter for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

From 28th July, 6,500 athletes and officials from 72 nations and territories will competed in 19 sports and eight para-sports across 15 competition venues in the UK.

As part of the Canon Group, Canon Medical Systems provided exceptional image-quality technologies to support the Games as ‘Official Imaging Supporter’. From cameras to print hardware and diagnostic imaging, every system provided enhanced the clarity of imaging at the multi-sport event.

Canon Professional Services gave photographers and broadcasters behind-the-scenes support in capturing every moment of the action.


Dedicated on-site printing services helped the event organisers and venues to deliver an exciting fan and spectator experience.


Onsite cutting-edge medical imaging services also supported athletes’ performance during the Games. MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray imaging services were available throughout the Athletes Villages and in diagnostic vehicles, to provide unparalleled support for some of the biggest sports stars.

Diagnostic imaging to support sports medicine and population health

Canon Medical UK provide the very latest medical imaging modalities to support sports and exercise needs, including AI-assisted MRI, diagnostic ultrasound and digital radiography X-ray with full health IT connectivity. Leading up to and beyond the Games, Canon Medical were the presenting sponsor of the Birmingham 2022 Polyclinics. These were equipped to offer athletes cutting-edge sports health surveillance, enabling early detection, prevention and faster rehabilitation of sports injury.

This specialist knowledge can then be applied to wider population health projects, helping to refine the development of medical imaging applications that have the potential to be made available to the NHS and other global healthcare organisations.
