Canon Medical Arena is the UK’s first carbon-neutral built community arena with multi-purpose sports facilities and integrated Medical Diagnostic Centre. The arena equips Sheffield with an affordable and accessible location for local people to participate in sports, engage in events, and improve the overall accessibility of health within the community.
The Medical Diagnostic Centre brings healthcare services close to the community and is operated by LivingCare, facilitating imaging referrals from professional sports clubs, health insurance companies, and offer the NHS and its patients additional capacity for scans and imaging procedures.

Moving Towards the Future
Canon Medical Arena was developed by Canon Medical Systems UK and is located at the heart of the regenerated Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
It is also a showcase for Canon Medical’s advanced imaging products and an AI incubation hub for Research & Development, focusing on health screening and disease prevention.
A sustainability Conscious World first
In line with Sheffield’s green objective of being a zero carbon city by 2050, and Canon Medical Systems UK Corporate Social Responsibility goals, Canon Medical Arena has been carbon-neutral built.
Living and working for the common good is at the heart of Canon Medical’s CSR initiatives. Canon Medical Arena exemplifies this entire philosophy of providing positive environmental and social value beyond the inherent purpose of this building.
Working in partnership with CO2balance, and pursuant to our commitment to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Canon Medical has ensured that the carbon emitted during the build of the Canon Medical Arena was mitigated in the spirit of sustainability and environmental awareness. The delivery of the arena was in line with our goal of attaining partnership status for UN SDG7: Affordable and Clean Energy, through VERRA’s Verified Carbon Standard Windfarm project in India.
In addition, all unavoidable carbon emissions from the use of Canon Medical’s diagnostic equipment incorporated within the Medical Diagnostic Centre will be compensated for their intended lifespan of use through UN Gold Standard projects in Uganda and Kenya. These projects also create social value (health benefits in the shape of illnesses and fatalities avoided as well economic benefits such as time saved to fetch water or wood). This is recognised by the UN in awarding Canon Medical Partnership Status for the following UNSDG’s: 6. Clean Water, 5. Gender Equality, 13. Climate Action and 3. Good Health and Wellbeing.
A Permanent Home for the Sheffield Sharks, Sheffield Hatters & the RESPECT Programme
Based at the heart of the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, we are proud to announce Canon Medical Arena is the official new home for the Sheffield Sharks (men) and the Sheffield Hatters (women) professional basketball teams as well as the home to the Sheffield Sharks RESPECT Programmes supported by Canon Medical Systems.
